Does your current mattress feel a little too firm and uncomfortable? If so you’ve come to the right article.
Here I’m taking a look at the Tuft & Needle mattress topper. I’m going to be looking at how it adjusts the firmness of your bed, what it feels like, to help you determine whether it’s a good fit for you.
Are you ready? Let’s get started.
Tuft & Needle is a popular online mattress brand and they sell everything from bed in a box mattresses to bedding to furniture.
Their mattress topper is made with their proprietary responsive foam and it’s a great way to add an extra boost of comfort and pressure relief.
How does it all work?
First let’s take a look at its construction.
Table of Contents
This mattress topper is two inches tall and it has a luxe cover with a polyester blend. This is meant to prevent your sheets from bunching up in the night.
Another cool thing about the cover is what’s on the bottom. It has a non-skid material, so it’ll stay secure to the top of your mattress.
Underneath the cover is two inches of their proprietary responsive foam. It bounces right back into place. You’re not gonna get that quicksand feeling and you’ll still get tons of great pressure relief.
So what does this all mean?
If you’re a hot sleeper, this is a great pick because their proprietary responsive foam won’t trap heat like some other toppers will. And will really promote airflow.
Second of all, let’s chat about durability. This is a slightly thinner mattress topper, but it’s still made with high quality materials. Overall I expect it to last about three years.
And finally motion transfer. If you don’t know what this is, it’s an especially important thing if you share a bed with a partner.
If you’re on one side of the bed and your partner shifts sleeping positions in the night, will you feel that motion transfer to your side of the bed.
I tested this and I laid on one side, my wife got in on the other and I can say I did not feel a lot of motion coming over to my section.
Firmness and Feel
When reviewing mattress toppers I always take a close look at how it adjusts the firmness of your bed and what it feels like.
Starting with firmness, the Tuft & Needle mattress topper should soften your bed by about one point. For reference, a six and a half out of ten is considered medium firm. So if your bed is feeling more like a seven, seven and a half, this will bring it back to that medium firm level.
Talking about feel, the Tuft & Needle mattress topper is more responsive than other toppers out there, so you’re not going to sink into it as much, but you’ll still get some really great pressure relief.
When I push into it, it comes right back, so it’s a lot easier to move around on top of this and you won’t feel stuck inside of it.
When I’m lying on my back, I sink in ever so slightly and I get some nice pressure relief around my lower back. When I’m lying on my side, I feel some really great pressure relief along my shoulders and my hips, which is exactly what you’re looking for with a mattress topper.
For stomach sleeping, this will differ depending on your height and your weight. I personally feel pretty comfortable lying on my stomach because it’s a responsive mattress topper and I don’t get out of alignment.
But if you’re a little bit bigger, your hips might sink in a bit further and you might start to feel a little strain on your lower back.
Who Should Get The Topper?
Now I’m going to go over who this mattress topper may be a good fit for and who it’s not a good fit for.
Let’s start with the pros.
First, this is an amazing pick if you are a hot sleeper. Unlike traditional memory foam, the Tuft & Needle proprietary responsive foam is much more breathable, so it’ll help dissipate heat.
Second of all, this is a great pick if you need additional pressure relief. It’ll especially help around the
shoulders and the hips.
Finally, the Tuft & Needle mattress topper has a material at the bottom that is non-skid so it’ll help it stay secure to the top of the mattress.
Who Shouldn’t Get The Topper?
Moving on to the cons.
First of all, this mattress topper will take about 48 hours to off gas and expand when it arrives at your house. So if you’re looking for something that you can sleep on right away, this is something to take in consideration.
Second the Tuft & Needle mattress topper isn’t the best pick for stomach sleepers because it will soften your mattress. It’s not going to make it the ideal sleeping surface if you prefer the sleeping position.
And finally the Tuft & Needle mattress topper is not machine washable. You’ll have to spot clean it and take very good care of it.
Before I wrap up, I’m going to touch on some additional information about the Tuft & Needle mattress topper.
