Do you want to add some pressure relieving memory foam to your mattress? You come to the right place.
Here I’m talking about the Saatva Graphite mattress topper. I’m going to talk about how it adjusts the firmness of your bed, who it’s a good fit for and who it’s not a good fit for.
You want to see if this is the right one for you?
Let’s find out.
Saatva is known for creating high quality and durable bedding products and their mattress toppers are no exception.
There are three different types of mattress toppers. They have Graphite, latex and high density memory foam.
But here I’m looking specifically at the Graphite memory foam topper. It has tons of great cooling features, but how does it all come together.
Table of Contents
Let’s take a look at its construction.
This mattress topper is three inches tall and the cover is made with 100% organic cotton.
So it’s very thin, it’s very breathable, which will help promote airflow. A very good thing especially if you’re a hot sleeper.
Another great thing about the cover is that it has straps attached to it on all four sides, so it will stay secure to the edge of the mattress.
Beneath the cover is three inches of slow moving memory foam and this gives you really great body contouring and pressure relief.
But what’s really great about it is that it’s infused with graphite and this material is meant to help dissipate heat to further aid in cooling.
So what does this all mean?
First, let’s talk about cooling.
As I mentioned before, this mattress topper is great for hot sleepers.
It has a thin breathable cover and graphite infused memory foam, which are all meant to promote airflow and dissipate heat.
Second of all, this mattress topper is very durable. Like all Saatva products this is made with high quality, well-made materials, so we expect this to last about three to five years.
And finally let’s touch on motion transfer.
If you don’t know what motion transfer is, this is especially important if you share a bed with a partner.
If you’re sleeping on one side of the bed and your partner shifts sleeping positions in the middle of the night, will you feel that motion move over to your side of the bed.
What’s great about this memory foam topper is that it will isolate motion very well.
To test this I lay on one side of the bed and my wife got in on the other and as she moved around, I really didn’t feel much of that motion transfer over to my side of the bed.
Firmness & Feel
When reviewing mattress toppers, I always take a close look at how it adjusts the firmness of your bed.
And the Saatva Graphite topper should soften your existing mattress by about two and a half points.
If you’re currently sleeping on about eight eight and a half, this topper will bring it closer down to that industry standard feel.
And when it comes to feel, it has a really slow moving memory foam feel. You’ll really sink into this mattress topper, which is great because you’ll feel some amazing body contouring around your hips and your lower back.
I will say, however, because you’re sinking into it far, it makes it a little bit difficult to move around on top of this mattress topper.
And of course we have to talk about sleeping positions.
Now when I’m lying on my back on the Saatva Graphite topper, I feel a really good amount of body contouring, especially around my lower back and hips.
Moving on to my side, I also feel some great pressure relief along my shoulders, which is exactly what you’re looking for in the sleeping position.
However, stomach sleeping, this is not a good pick. Because this is so soft, your lower back will likely sink deeply into the layers, which gets the body out of alignment and that could lead to lower back pain over time.
Now I’m going to outline some of the pros and cons of the Saatva mattress topper.
Starting with the pros, the Saatva mattress topper is great if you’re a hot sleeper. It has a thin breathable cover and graphite inside it, which is meant to help draw heat away from the body.
Second of all, this is a great pick if you need some extra pressure relief. This mattress topper will soften a bed by about two and a half points. You’ll really feel that pressure relief along your shoulders and your hips.
Finally this is a great mattress topper if you want something that will stay secure to the top of your bed. It has straps on the four corners, so you never really need to worry about it shifting around.
Moving on to some of the cons for the Saatva mattress topper.
First of all, it will take about 48 hours to off gas and expand. You might notice a slight chemical smell at first but that will fade after two days. But if you are looking for something to sleep on as soon as it arrives, this is something to take in consideration.
Second, this is not a great pick for stomach sleepers. This is a very soft mattress topper, so if you’re laying in the sleeping position. you might feel some strain on your lower back as your hips sink into it.
And finally this mattress topper is not machine washable. You can spot clean it, but if you’re looking for something that you can throw in the washing machine, you’ll want to go elsewhere.
Now let’s touch on some additional information for the Saatva Graphite mattress topper.
Saatva does offer free shipping and free returns. They have a one year warranty and a 45 days sleep trial period. And different accessories are available.
