If you’re trying to choose between Brooklyn Bedding and Purple you’ve come to the right place.

If you’re trying to choose between Brooklyn Bedding and Purple you’ve come to the right place.

Here I’m comparing the Brooklyn Bedding Signature hybrid mattress and the Purple original mattress.

I’m going to take a look at their construction, their similarities, their differences and help you choose one over the other.

    Let’s get started.

    Similarities

Let’s start off by talking about the similarities between these two mattresses.

First off, they both come from very popular mattress brands with great customer service terms.

In terms of firmness, the medium version of the Brooklyn Bedding is similar to the Purple original mattress.

In terms of feel they’re quite similar as well. Both are bouncy and more responsive.

And last but not least, they are both breathable mattresses.

    Differences

Now let’s talk about the differences between these two mattresses.

First of all, there are some construction and materials differences.

On top of the Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress you’re going to have some foam. On top of the Purple, a hyper elastic gel polymer.

Also some different materials in the support layers.

With the Brooklyn Bedding and support, they’re going to have supportive coils. In the support layer of the Purple, you’re going to have base foam.

It’s also going to be some feel differences as well. While there are both responsive mattresses, with the Purple mattress more of a squishy gel like feel. It’s firm and pressure relieving at the same time.

With the Brooklyn Bedding mattress more of a responsive, kind of bouncy plush inner spring feel.

Also with the Brooklyn Bedding you have three firmness options. With the Purple, you only have one firmness option.

And last but not least, speaking of price, the Purple’s gonna cost a little bit more than the Brooklyn Bedding.

    Construction

Now let’s take a look at the construction of both these mattresses. Starting off on top and then working our way down.

First off on, top of the Brooklyn Bedding mattress, a thin breathable cover, also quilted with foam. Over on the Purple, also a thin breathable cover.

Moving down to the comfort layers, on the Brooklyn Bedding mattress, on top a layer of titanflex foam. It is bouncy, responsive and good with pressure relief, and infused with gel to help with cooling.

Below that a layer of energex foam. Also bouncy and very responsive as well.

Moving over to the Purple mattress, on top a layer of hyperelastic gel polymer. A very unique material. It forms a gel grid, it stays firm and supportive until you apply enough pressure and then that area and that area only will collapse.

Below that you have a foam transition layer.

Moving down to the support layers of both these mattresses. On the Brooklyn Bedding mattress, you’re going to have some support coils. Over in the Purple a base foam.

So what does all this mean?

Just looking at their general constructions, these are very different mattresses.

First off with the Brooklyn Bedding mattress, a very traditional mattress overall, kind of a hybrid or inner spring design.

With the Purple, a unique design with that high pressure gel polymer right on top. It is firm and pressure relieving at the same time.

There’s nothing quite like the Purple.

Speaking of cooling, I would give the advantage to the Purple mattress with a gel grid on top, a lot of room for airflow. Should be a better match for hot sleepers in general.

And last but not least, speaking of durability, I would give the advantage to the Purple mattress. With that gel grit on top, the very durable material should last longer than the Brooklyn Bedding.

    Firmness and Feel

Now let’s talk about firmness and feel.

In terms of firmness, I thought the Brooklyn Bedding was close to a six and a half out of ten. And the Purple is close to also a six and a half out of ten.

Again though we’re talking about the medium model of the Brooklyn Bedding mattress. There’s also a softer model and a firmer model as well.

Speaking of feel, they are both responsive mattresses, but their feels are slightly different.

With the Brooklyn Bedding mattress, more of a bouncy responsive inner spring feel. The plush pillow top feel on top of that.

Over with the Purple, a very unique feel, it is squishy, it is gel like, it is firm, it’s pressure relieving at the same time. A very unique material overall.

    Sleeping Positions

Let’s talk about how I feel in different sleeping positions on both these mattresses.

Starting off on the Brooklyn Bedding mattress, on my back, very good match for me. Good balance of comfort and support, hip sinking in the right amount, good overall support. Very nice for back sleeping.

Moving to my side, not a bad match for me as a side sleeper. A little bit of pressure on my shoulders and my hips but not too much. Again if you’re a side sleeper, you can also go for their softer model.

However moving to my stomach, it’s not quite supportive enough for me. I’m bowing at the hips and I’m getting out of alignments.

Moving over to the Purple, starting off my back, also a very good match for me. The mattress only collapses under my hips and my butt, stays flat and supportive overall.

I will note though that I am a larger person. If you’re lightweight, like under 150 pounds, you might not be heavy enough to activate this gel grid. It might feel too firm to you when you’re back sleeping.

Moving to my side, a great match for me as a side sleeper. Almost no pressure on my shoulders and my hips. Again that same caveat I think for side sleepers, if you’re lighter you might feel some more pressure on your shoulders and your hips.

Moving to my stomach, also good overall support. I’m not bowing at the hips and I’m not getting out of alignment.

    Motion Transfer and Edge Support

If you sleep with a partner, you also want to think about two things. That’s motion transfer and edge support.

Motion transfer means you’re lying down on one side of the mattress and your part moves around on the other side, are you going to feel that motion or not?

The edge support means if you’re sitting or lying down at the edge of a mattress, do you feel secure or will you roll off and onto the floor?

So first off, speaking of motion transfer.

Neither mattress handles it too well. They’re both bouncy responsive mattresses, so not the best match for couples in that respect.

Speaking of edge support, both have pretty decent edge support, but I would give the advantage to the Purple mattress. I feel more secure on the edge of this mattress

Who Should Get The Brooklyn Bedding Mattress?

Now the moment you’ve all been waiting for. Which one of these mattresses should you get?

In terms of who should get the Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress, this is a better choice if you want firmness options. You have three options: soft, medium and firm.

You can definitely find the right firmness for your situation. I think also between the two mattresses, a better option for lightweight people.

Lightweight people lying on the Purple it might feel too firm, not enough pressure relief for them. Not enough comfort.

Overall should feel more comfortable on the Brooklyn Bedding.

And last but not least, in terms of feel, if you prefer more of a traditional mattress with a bouncy inner spring feel, with a plush pillow top, the Brooklyn Bedding is the way to go.

Who Should Get The Purple Mattress?

Now in terms of who should get the Purple mattress I think a better option for hot sleepers.

The Brooklyn Bedding is also a breathable mattress but not quite as breathable as the Purple.

That gel grid on top leaves so much room for airflow, it shouldn’t trap heat, shouldn’t make you overheat at night.

It’s also I think a better option for larger people. It’s the more supportive mattress and you should feel better pressure relief if you’re a larger person on the Purple mattress.

And last but not least, speaking of durability, the Purple is the more durable mattress. So if you want something longer lasting, a better long-term investment, take a look at the Purple.
