Silk Pillowcase Benefits
Here I’m going to be talking about silk pillowcases and why it’s important to sleep with one every single night.
Silk is one of those luxury fabrics that is really nice to look at. The feeling of it is incredible as well.
But there’s also a lot of benefits to having silk in your collection, whether it’s a pillowcase or bed sheets or maybe it’s a silk pajama.
There’s a lot of benefits to having silk, so I will be sharing those benefits in this article when it comes to a silk pillowcase.
I’ve been sleeping on a silk pillowcase for about two to three years now. Before that I was sleeping on a regular cotton pillowcase.
When you make the switch over to a silk pillowcase, it’s honestly like night and day. The two do not compare. And once you go to a silk, you will never go back to a regular cotton pillowcase. I guarantee it!
Silk pillowcases are not only great for our skin, but it’s also great for our hair.
It also helps to keep you cool through the night. I do find that sleeping on a cotton pillowcase can retain a lot of heat. I do wake up a lot in the middle of the night, just super hot, I’m sweating and my face just feels really warm.
But when you go and sleep on a silk pillowcase, I feel like the temperature regulates a lot better and you don’t get that heat that’s built into the fabric. It really does keep you nice and cool all night long.
Let’s talk about the benefits of sleeping on a silk pillowcase.
It will prevent fine lines and wrinkles.
It will also help to retain moisture into your skin.
I don’t know if you can relate but when I used to sleep on a cotton pillowcase, I would go to bed with a super moisturized face. By the time I wake up in the morning, my face felt super tight, it felt dry and I had no moisture left on my skin.
That is because when you’re sleeping, the cotton pillowcase will actually absorb all of that moisture from your skin as well as your hair. It’s going to absorb all of that cream and moisture that you had on your face while going to bed.
When you wake up in the morning, your face just feels super tight. At least that is the experience that I had with a cotton pillowcase.
When you go to a silk pillowcase, the way you go to bed with your face being super hydrated and moisturized, you will actually wake up with that exact same feeling on your face.
I guarantee this will happen!
And what a difference does this make in your skincare routine. When you wake up in the morning, your face just feels absolutely incredible. You still have a glow to your skin and it looks healthy.
So sleeping on a silk pillowcase will keep your skin hydrated all night long.
Another benefit is hair breakage.
You are not going to experience the hair breakage like you would if you were sleeping on a cotton pillowcase.
Sleeping on a cotton pillowcase is actually going to cause friction between your hair and the pillowcase. This is going to make your hair look and feel drier. It’s going to make your hair look frizzy and it’s actually going to break your hair over time.
A silk pillowcase has a lot of slip to this fabric in particular, so you’re not going to get the friction, you’re not going to get the breakage and also your hair is going to remain frizz free and shiny and healthy.
I also noticed that going from a cotton pillowcase to a silk pillowcase, I have experienced less breakouts.
This makes total sense because when you use a cotton pillowcase, when you go to bed every day and you wake up, all of your skincare products and your moisturizer has been absorbed into your pillowcase.
This will eventually create bacteria. If you are not switching out your pillowcases often, this will be a bacteria zone, which will then cause you to have breakouts.
I did notice this when I was using a cotton pillowcase.
But since going to a silk pillowcase, I’ve definitely noticed that I’m not breaking out as much, because all of the moisture and products are staying on my skin. They are not being absorbed into the silk material.
And not only that, I do switch my pillowcases twice a week. Whenever I wash my hair, which is twice a week, I will change my pillowcase at that time as well.
I do notice that when I do switch out my pillowcases twice a week, I definitely experience less breakouts.
Silk is naturally hypoallergenic as well. If you are somebody with a lot of allergies to molds or dust mites, then definitely choose a silk pillowcase because you may see an improvement with that as well.
Here three silk pillowcase benefits you may not have known.
The first benefit is if you are getting any procedure on your face at an aesthetic clinic, at a med spa, or a dermatologist. You definitely need silk pillowcase.
This is something that can protect your investment and it’s also the reason why dermatologists recommend this product.
If you’re getting any facial procedure at all: Botox, fillers, chemical peel, Fraxel, laser treatment, facelift. The silk pillowcase can help you heal quicker and possibly may minimize downtime.
And because the pillowcase helps prevent wrinkles and fine lines, which is generally the reason why you’re going to an aesthetic physician anyway, silk pillowcases should be in your aftercare.
The second benefit is it can help with sunburn and sun damage. If you’ve ever put your face on a pillow after a sunburn, it feels like sandpaper. And that’s because it tugs and pulls at your skin.
A silk pillowcase soothes after a sunburn and it’s been said to help reverse damage done by the sun.
So if you’re somebody that goes outside a lot. I definitely recommend sleeping on a silk pillowcase.
The third benefit is it can help with razor burn. When guys would buy this pillowcase, they would say: Wow! I never get razor burn, razor bumps or chafing anymore.
So if you’re somebody that shaves and gets razor burn, this can help you.
How to Care For Silk Pillowcases
With silk pillowcases you do have to be careful on how you care for these.
When you want to wash these, you do want to either hand wash them in cold water or if you have a special gentle cycle or a hand wash cycle on your wash machine, you do want to choose that with cold water on a low spin.
That’s how I care for all of my silk pillowcases.
With that being said, you do want to be careful on how you place them in the washing machine.
When it comes to my silk pillowcases, I do like to place them in a laundry bag, which is a mesh bag. These are super cheap and you can find these basically anywhere.
I like to place one pillowcase in one bag, another pillowcase in another bag, and place them in the washing machine.
Doing it this way, you will prevent any tears or tugs during the cycle.
When choosing a detergent, you do want to choose either a detergent that is meant for silk or you could use Woolite, which is what I use.
You can steam these on a gentle steaming cycle or you can cool iron these as well to get any wrinkles out of the material and then of course place it on your bed and it will look nice and crisp.
