Here I’m going to be talking about the PandaZzz cooling mattress topper.
PandaZzz is a brand that makes mattresses, toppers and pillows. Their goal is to make the best memory foam products out there that are comparable with the most expensive ones on the market but at a much more affordable price.
I don’t know about you, but I am all about saving a little bit of money.
In this article I’ll be going over the construction and feel of this topper as well as discussing its performance by sleeper type and going over some pros and cons.
I’ll also discuss some policies and hopefully by the end of this article you’ll have a good idea of whether this mattress topper could work for you.
Let’s get started.
Table of Contents
Because with a product as simple as a mattress topper, what it’s made of is really going to tell you a lot about how it’s going to feel.
This cooling topper is pretty simple in construction.
It’s really just a three inch slab of gel memory foam and it’s just the one layer. It doesn’t have a cover and it also doesn’t really have anything to attach it to the bed.
So a very simple topper all in all.
This topper is going to come in five different sizes.
You can get it in twin, full, queen, king and California king sizes.
It’s also important to note that this foam is CertiPUR-US certified, which means that it is free from harmful chemicals and pollutants, which are definitely things you don’t want near your body while you’re sleeping.
Another important thing to note about this topper is that when you receive it, it’s going to be compressed and rolled into a box.
It’ll need a little bit of time to inflate after you take it out. If you take it out of the box and it’s looking a little bit lumpy, kind of weird, don’t freak out. It just needs a little bit of time to inflate.
This is called a cooling topper so let’s talk about some of the properties that will help with cooling.
As I mentioned earlier, this is gel infused memory foam and that’s a really common material that’s used in cooling sleep products.
The reason for that is that the gel actually will help draw heat away from the body, so that will help you sleep a little bit cooler.
Next we’ve also got perforations. This is actually called AirCell foam, so it’s got these little holes in it. Basically what that allows for is more airflow within the foam. When I push in there, I can even feel a little puff of air coming out.
I think that’ll help with getting some airflow in the mattress and preventing too much heat from really getting trapped inside the foam.
Memory foam by nature is heat trapping, it’s just one of the qualities of foam.
I’d say if you’re a super hot sleeper I would honestly probably just avoid a memory foam topper all together.
But if you really want a memory foam topper and you’re concerned about that heating, I think the gel and the perforations will definitely do something to help you sleep a little bit more temperature neutral and prevent too much of that heat buildup.
It’s important to remember that feel is subjective and what feel is best for you is really going to depend on why you’re trying to add a topper to your mattress,
Just as with most sleep products, there really is no one size fits all mattress topper.
I would say that this topper is somewhere from soft to medium soft.
When I lie down on it, I can really feel myself sinking into it and it has that kind of classic memory foam feel.
If you really like the feeling of being absorbed into your mattress rather than lying on top of it, I think you’ll really enjoy this topper.
When I’m pushing my hand in there, it really contours around my hand and it really even holds that print before it reforms.
I think that really gives you a good idea of the contouring of this memory foam. That’s going to offer great pressure relief for side sleepers.
I’m personally a combination sleeper myself, so I really appreciate how this makes side sleeping on a mattress that’s just a little too firm a little bit more comfortable.
I tested this topper on a few different mattresses to get a feeling for how it’ll alter firmness level.
We rate firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, where one is really soft and 10 is like as hard as a rock.
I tested this on both a firm mattress and a medium soft mattress.
With the firm mattress that was an 8 out of 10 and it was very firm and offered very little pressure relief, by adding this topper, I think it lowered the firmness level to around a 5.5 to 6, which would be a medium mattress.
With the medium soft mattress that was a 6 out of 10, when I added PandaZzz, it lowered it down to about a 4 out of 10, which is extremely soft.
I wouldn’t really recommend doing that to anyone except side sleepers who like a really really soft mattress. Because you’re going to be enveloped by the mattress.
I think those two different tests give you a good idea of how this topper will alter the firmness of your bed.
Now that we’ve talked about construction and feel, let’s go over how this topper is going to work for different types of sleepers.
First up is back sleepers.
I would say this topper is going to be a pretty good option for back sleepers, especially those that really want to add a little bit more cushioning to their bed. I would definitely stick to adding this to a firm mattress for back sleepers and not a softer one.
When i tested it on the softer mattress, I felt like I was sinking into a pit of quicksand. So for back sleepers I would definitely recommend adding this to a firm mattress.
For side sleepers I think this is a really great topper for side sleepers.
Side sleepers really need that contouring and the pressure relief and this memory foam topper really offers that. I think this is going to be a great option for side sleepers.
For stomach sleepers, I honestly wouldn’t really recommend buying this.
Stomach sleepers tend to need a firmer surface and that’s because if their hips sink down into the mattress, it’ll cause their back to bow and that’ll lead to back pain. Memory foam like this will cause their hips to sink.
I would stick with a firmer mattress overall and no memory foam topper for stomach sleepers.
If you’re an indecisive person, you’re probably familiar with a good old-fashioned pros and cons list. I’ve put one together to help you out with some of the best and not so best qualities of PandaZzz mattress topper.
Let’s start off with the pros.
First I would say a big pro for me with this topper is the plush contouring that it provides. I think that it’s going to be really great for side sleepers or back sleepers who want a little extra contouring.
It’s a great fix for a mattress that’s too firm without having to buy a whole new mattress. You can just add this topper on top and you’ll be all good.
For my second pro, I would say the cooling features. They’re not going to be incredible for extremely hot sleepers. I is a memory foam topper and memory foam just naturally traps heat.
But I think for average people who want a memory foam topper and are concerned about that heat trapping, the gel and the AirCell perforation foam will definitely do a lot to combat that and at least help you sleep temperature neutral.
My last pro would be the price.
With the queen size being around $100, this is a really affordable topper and that’s great for just being able to add it right on top and not have to buy an entire new mattress.
My first con would be that there’s really nothing to attach this topper to your bed.
Obviously a fitted sheet will hold it down in place but I could see it being annoying if it’s shifting around at night, especially if you’re someone who tosses and turns a lot.
Next I would say that even though that contouring is going to be great for some people, if you’re the type of person who really likes a firmer surface or just a solid surface that you lay on top of rather than in, you’re probably not going to like this topper because it really has that sinking memory foam feel.
Finally I would say this is just not going to be a good option for stomach sleepers. They tend to need that firmer surface to keep their hips elevated.
To prevent that lower back pain I would just recommend steering away from a memory foam topper like this, if you’re a stomach sleeper.
They do offer free shipping on all their products so that’s really nice and you can expect this topper to arrive in about five business days.
They also do offer a 100 night sleep trial with this topper and that means that you have a hundred nights to test it out at home. If you decide during that period that you don’t like it, you can return it for a full refund.
Finally they also offer a one-year warranty on this topper. It’s not the longest warranty I’ve ever seen but it is nice to have that warranty just in case there are any defects with the topper.
