Do you want to soften up your mattress all while enjoying the relaxing scent of lavender?
If so you’ve come to the right place. Here I’m taking a look at the Lucid 5-Zone lavender memory foam mattress topper.
I’m going to see how it adjusts the firmness of your mattress, what it feels like and who is a good fit for, who it’s not a good fit for.
You want to find out if this is the right mattress topper for you? Let’s get started.
Lucid sells a wide variety of products including furniture, bedding, pillows and of course mattress toppers.
Their 5-Zone lavender memory foam topper is one of their most advanced models yet. This topper actually comes in a two inch and a three inch. You can get it with lavender infused scent or you can get it with gel infusion.
Here though I’m specifically looking at the 3-inch lavender infused model.
Table of Contents
Let’s take a look at its construction.
The 3-inch model has no cover to it. It’s meant to sit directly on top of a mattress with a fitted sheet or a mattress protector over it.
It’s made of a really slow moving memory foam. It takes a long time for it to come back and respond.
It has five zoned layers, which is meant to provide unique pressure relief to different parts of your body.
And finally it is infused with a lavender essential oil, which is meant to help promote relaxation and help you get a great night’s sleep.
So what does this all mean?
First I need to talk about its cooling. Memory foam in general is not the best with keeping people cool. It has a tendency to trap heat.
Even though this topper is made with a breathable material, I do expect it to maybe be not a great pick for hot sleepers.
If this is you though, if you’re a hot sleeper, I recommend going for their gel infused model because that will help promote airflow better.
Moving on to durability.
Overall this is a much more simple mattress topper. It doesn’t have some of the luxury features you see in the higher end models. Because of this, I expect it to last about two to three years.
Finally, let’s talk about the scent.
It is infused with a lavender essential oil and it’s very strong when you first open it. But it will fade with time.
If you ever do want to enhance the smell of your mattress topper, you can always get your own lavender essential spray, give it a nice spritz and keep it fresh.
Firmness & Feel
Moving on to firmness and feel.
Starting with firmness, the Lucid memory foam mattress topper should soften your mattress by about one and a half points.
So if your mattress is already on the firm side, this is a really great and easy way to soften it up.
Moving on to feel, as I push my hand into it, it has a very, very slow moving memory foam feel. It takes a long time to come back into place. It’s almost like quicksand and this is great for body contouring.
You’ll really feel the foam layers hug your body and you’ll sink into the top.
But with that said, it does make difficult to move around on top of the mattress. So that’s something to keep in mind.
And of course I have to talk about sleeping positions.
Starting on my back, I feel a really good amount of pressure relief, especially around my lumbar area. You gently sink into those memory foam layers and it’s overall an excellent pick for back sleepers.
Moving on to side sleeping, the five zone layers really provide excellent pressure relief. You’ll especially feel that on your shoulders and your hips.
I will say though, stomach sleepers, this is not a good fit for you. Generally stomach sleepers want to sleep on a very firm surface so that the body stays in alignment and because you will sink into this quite a bit, you might develop some lower back pain while you’re sleeping on your stomach.
Let’s go over some of the pros and cons of this Lucid memory foam mattress topper.
Starting with the pros, this is a great option if you’re on a budget. This is much more affordable than some other toppers out there.
Second, this is perfect for those of you who love the smell of lavender. Lavender is said to promote better sleep and help relaxation, so if this is what you’re looking for, this is a great way to go.
Number three, this is great if you need some additional pressure relief. The Lucid’s five zone memory foam really helps alleviate pressure on your shoulders and your hips.
And finally, this is a great way to extend the life of a mattress if it’s getting a little old or starting to sag or losing comfort. Add this to the top and you’ll be able to enjoy it much longer.
Moving on to some of the cons for the Lucid memory foam mattress topper.
Not a good pick for stomach sleepers. This is a very soft memory foam topper, so you will sink in a good amount and is not going to promote the proper spinal alignment in the sleeping position.
Number two, it does take about 48 hours for this topper to off gas and expand. What that means is that after you open it from the box, it’ll be super flat and it will have a really strong lavender smell, so this isn’t great for people who are sensitive to scent.
If you are, you might want to choose the gel infused model because it doesn’t have a smell to it.
Number three, this mattress topper doesn’t come with straps or anything to really help it stay secure to the top of the mattress. You will have to be sure that you put a fitted sheet or a mattress protector over it.
Finally, similar to that, it’s not easy to clean the actual mattress topper itself. You’ll need to have some protective barrier over it, so that everything stays clean.
Now I’m going to cover some of the additional information about the Lucid lavender memory foam mattress topper.
First of all, they do offer free shipping and free returns.
There’s a three year warranty on it and different accessories are available.
