Things to Consider
You may be wondering, why a mattress topper?
There are several great things about them.
First of all, they’re fantastic for softening a mattress. On the firmness scale, 6.5 out of 10 is considered medium firm. But if your bed is feeling more like an 8 out of 10, you might want something to bring it closer to that industry standard level.
I’ll get into how much each mattress topper softens a bed later on.
Second, mattress toppers are fantastic for changing how your mattress feels.
If you’re a really big fan of that slow moving memory foam feel or you want to add a bit of bounce and responsiveness to your bed, mattress topper can do just that.
Also mattress toppers provide great pressure relief. This is especially beneficial if you’re a side sleeper and you need some relief on your shoulders.
Or if you’re a back sleeper and you need some body contouring around your hips.
Last but not least, mattress toppers can save you money. If your mattress is a little bit older and you don’t feel like springing for a brand new bed yet, add a mattress topper and it will extend the life of your mattress.
First up we have the ViscoSoft high density mattress topper.
This mattress topper has tons of luxurious high-end features, all for a low price point.
It’s three inches thick, so it’s a little bit bigger than others you’ll find on the market.
When you lie down on it, you’ll really sink into that slow moving memory foam. This creates excellent pressure relief for your shoulders and your hips. So, fantastic for side sleepers.
It has a gel infusion running throughout, so it won’t trap heat like other memory foam toppers will.
Also it will soften your mattress by about two points. If you sleep on a firmer bed, this is a great pick.
And to make things even better, the ViscoSoft high density mattress topper has four straps on the corners so it easily secures to the bed.
And it has a removable and machine washable cover.
If you love the slow moving feeling of memory foam and the relaxing scent of lavender, you’ll want to take a look at the Lucid Lavender mattress topper.
This one is three inches thick and it should soften your bed by about a point and a half.
You’ll really sink into this memory foam. It almost has a quicksand kind of feeling, which provides great pressure relief for your shoulders and your hips.
A great choice for back and side sleepers.
Gel foam mattress toppers are increasingly popular and for a good reason.
The gel inside the foam helps dissipate heat so you should sleep cool all night long.
And one of the most affordable gel foam mattress toppers out there is definitely the Dreamfoam.
This mattress topper will soften your bed by two points and it has a slow moving memory foam feel.
You’ll really notice the pressure relief along your shoulders and your hips.
Another great thing about this topper is that it isolates motion really well and this is especially beneficial if you share a bed with a partner. So if your partner tosses and turns throughout the night, you’re less likely to feel that movement on your side of the bed.
Tuft & Needle
As you may know some memory foam mattress toppers have a tendency to trap heat, but that won’t be a problem at all with the Tuft & Needle.
That’s because this is made with their proprietary foam. It’s a lot more breathable and responsive than traditional foam.
You’ll sink into it and get that nice body contouring but it won’t trap heat.
The Tuft & Needle mattress topper will soften your bed by one point, so it’s especially great for back and side sleepers.
If you’re hoping to get that nice pillow top look and feel, the Helix plush mattress topper is the one for you.
This mattress topper won’t adjust the firmness of your bed too much, about a half a point. This one’s really about changing the feel of your mattress.
It has a breathable bamboo cover, so it’s soft, resilient and it should keep you cool at night.
Also it has one and a half inch pockets filled with fiberfill, has nice baffle box stitching around the outside, so it should stay in place and last you a long time.
And because it won’t make your mattress feel super soft, the Helix plush is a good pick for stomach sleepers.
