Bear vs Tempur-Pedic Mattress Comparison

In this article I’m going to be doing a mattress comparison between Bear and Tempur-Pedic. These are two pretty popular memory foam options within the online space and they make a bunch of different beds.

For the purposes of this review, I’m mainly going to focus around how the Original Bear mattress stacks up against the Tempur Cloud and Adapt mattresses from Tempur-Pedic.

I’ll start things off by covering the types of policies that they’re both going to come with. Then I’ll dig into some of their overarching similarities and then the major differences between them so you can get a better understanding of which option might be best for you.

Without further ado, here’s Bear versus Tempur-Pedic.

    Policies

For starters, let’s cover all the policies that you’re gonna get with these beds. This is stuff like what you’re gonna be getting in terms of shipping, returns, trial periods and warranties.

If you buy these options online, here’s essentially what you’re gonna get.

First off, they’ll come with completely free shipping. All the Bear mattresses and the Tempur-Cloud come with standard bed in a box shipping. The Temper-Adapt mattress, on the other hand, actually comes with complimentary white glove delivery, in which case a local delivery team is actually going to bring this bed to your home full size and set it up for you.

Whether they come with white glove delivery or completely free bed in a box shipping, rest assured it should be free however they get to you.

Once they’re in your possession, you also get 100 nights to try out the Original Bear mattress and around 90 nights to test out the beds from Tempur-Pedic. This is basically your chance to see if they’re truly right for you before you’re completely stuck with them.

If they’re not for whatever reason within that time frame, you also get completely free returns with Bear, whereas returns won’t exactly be free with Tempur-Pedic because they do incur some costs with their complimentary white glove delivery service.

But should you decide to keep them after their respective trial windows, both are backed by at least a standard 10-year warranty.

    Similarities

Let’s get into some of the similarities between these two and frankly there’s not much here, but one of the biggest things that they both have in common is that both Bear and Tempur-Pedic have all foam and hybrid options to choose from.

If you are a heavier individual, I always recommend looking into getting a bed with pocketed coils instead of support foam. This is just because they usually provide a bit more long-term support for bigger body types.

With Bear you have Bear Hybrid which is a super supportive pillow top hybrid mattress and with the Temper-Adapt you can actually get the bed with either support foam or coils based on your preference. It’s nice to know either way you go here you do have some supportive hybrid options to choose from.

Both Bear and Tempur-Pedic beds are also going to be on the firmer end of the spectrum and they’re also going to feature more of a memory foam feel.

    Differences

If you’re a fan of memory foam, you should find either one of these options to be pretty appealing. However there is a slight difference between the type of memory foam feel that each one provides, which is the first major difference between these two.

The Original Bear mattress offers more of a classic prototypical memory foam feel. When you lay down on this bed you’re gonna feel some of those body conforming sink in qualities that you’re probably used to with a memory foam mattress.

But Bear’s top layer of memory foam is a lot more responsive than the top layers of viscous memory foam used on the Tempur-Pedic beds which naturally gives them more of a dense memory foam feel overall.

Tempur-Pedic offers a more traditional type of dense memory foam sensation with their mattresses. When you first go to lay down on one of these beds it’ll likely appear to feel pretty firm at first, but as you nestle in and sink into those top layers of viscous memory foam, they’ll start to conform nicely to the shape of your body.

This type of memory foam feel is a lot more body conforming and slow to respond and a lot of memory foam lovers out there seem to really prefer this type of memory foam feel because it can deter you from tossing and turning at night and maybe contribute to more restful sleep

But on the other hand, some folks kind of prefer a more responsive memory foam feel such as the one offered on Bear, because more of a dense one can also make you feel like you’re stuck in the bed as you go to rotate between different sleeping positions. So if you go with Bear, this could be a little more conducive to you in this regard.

Another big difference between them is the amount of options that you have at your disposal with each brand and I think Tempur-Pedic probably gets the slight advantage here.

Tempur-Pedic as a brand offers five different lines of beds, four of which are available in a variety of firmness levels and three of which are offered as either all foam or hybrid beds. So with Tempur-Pedic you get far more options to choose from than Bear, which as a brand currently only offers three different beds.

However those three beds offered from Bear are pretty accommodating and should apply to a vast majority of sleeper types out there.

Tempur-Pedic just might take the cake in terms of how many options that they offer as a brand, but Bear might get the advantage in terms of overall affordability.

With Tempur-Pedic you’re getting a more premium option within the online space. As of when I’m writing this article, a queen-size Tempur-Cloud retails for around two thousand dollars and a Tempur-Adapt queen goes for about twenty two hundred bucks. So you are going to be investing in a more luxurious product here.

Whereas a queen size original Bear mattress currently retails for just shy of a thousand bucks, so you’ll probably be saving a bit more money by going the Bear mattress route.

Be sure to check what types of discounts they’re currently running. Mattress brands like Bear and Tempur-Pedic do tend to play around with pricing quite often.

The last major difference between these two can be found within their mattress covers.

A lot of the Tempur-Pedic beds like the Tempur-Adapt mattress come with cooling covers by default. If you are more of a hot sleeper, you probably want to go with Tempur-Pedic over Bear.

The covers on these beds will probably do a pretty good job at keeping you temperature neutral throughout the night, if not a little bit cooler than that.

With Bear they don’t necessarily feature active cooling properties within their covers, but they do feature a textile known as Celliant, which is a material that’s been recognized by the FDA as a general wellness device and it’s basically supposed to help with all things related to bettering your overall sleep on a nightly basis.

I can’t really prove to you that this stuff works the way the FDA says it does. I’m not exactly scientists but a lot of folks out there sleep on beds that feature Celliant within their covers and they swear that there is something to it.

    Verdict

That just about does it for this comparison between Bear and Tempur-Pedic.

All in all you’re looking at two really decent memory foam options within the online space that could check a lot of your boxes, but at the end of the day, which option should you really go with and why.

I’d say go the route of the Original Bear mattress if you want the more affordable option with more of a responsive memory foam feel and you’ll like the sound of that Celliant cover.

Go with Tempur-Pedic if you’re not afraid to spend up for a more premium option with a dense viscous memory foam feel and the sound of those cooling covers maybe appeal to you a bit more.

But that’s just my take on it.
